About My Tutoring
When I become your learner’s tutor,
this is what our journey will look like!
- I will get to know your learner – what emotions they feel about math, what kinds of games and challenges they like, what they like to do for fun, and what makes them feel engaged?
- I will use humor to put your learner at ease and encourage engagement.
- I will informally assess your learner’s strengths and skills, and identify their learning gaps and obstacles.
- I will meet with parents and carers to consult about learning goals and discuss successful strategies.
- I will engage with your learner’s current math challenges and address basics that need to be reinforced.
- I will build your learner’s confidence by encouraging them to celebrate and learn from their mistakes, accept new challenges, and recognise the steps they are taking towards math mastery.
- I will customize, update, and discuss the curriculum with flexibility.
Depending on your learner,
the course may include some of the following:
- I may adapt structured curriculum from outside sources such as Khan Academy, Common Core, Jump Math, etc
- I may approach specific challenges through drawing, storytelling, rhyming, games, challenges, or whatever engages the learne
- I may focus on relieving stress and/or anxiety about math
- I may use creative techniques to keep the learner engaged and present
- I may encourage specific activities to practice math outside of the class
- I may (at the discretion of the parent or carer) talk informally about learning challenges in general or specific to the learner
How it Works
When you reach out to me, we’ll schedule a free video chat so we can get to know each other and make sure we’re a good fit. I’ll also do a pre-assessment of your learner’s strengths and goals.
Moving forward, we’ll arrange a schedule of regular 55 minute sessions on a weekly basis. I’ll send a google meet invite to an email address your learner can access. They’ll use the same link every session to avoid confusion!
Your learner will need a good video and audio connection, and, if possible, a quiet learning environment. I may occastionally call upon you to share what we’ve practiced and how you can support from home!
Pricing: I discuss the cost of these tutorials on a case-by-case basis, as it depends on a few factors.
On average, I currently charge $40 per session. For multiple weekly sessions or financial need, I can reduce the amount. I may charge more if the individualized curriculum requires extended preparation. I do not charge HST at this time.
